Spotlight delivers music and drama activities to people with learning difficulties including those on the autistic spectrum and those with severe and profound difficulties including those with challenging behaviours. Spotlight is run by Carole Church, an experienced performing arts teacher in the field of special education needs.
Their aim is to help members enjoy performances of all types and to develop confidence in communication and social interaction. Members practice twice a week at Bexley Mencap with percussion and a choir group.
They came into the Store recently and sang a wide selection of song to include Abba. Some of the members enjoyed it so much that they started dancing. They sang with much energy and enthusiasm and was enjoyed by the customers and colleagues. Annie Wong, Sainsbury’s Charity Co-ordinator who organised the event played solo clarinet afterwards with a selection of songs to include pieces from The Sound of Music. All in all it was a very good fundraising event.
Mike Godden, Customer and Trading Services of Sainsbury’s Bexleyheath said, “we like to thank Spotlight Choir for coming into the Store and presenting us with such lovely music and we are proud to support them.”
